1998An Arts Education presentation at Roberto Clemente Junior High School, NYC with four young artists and twenty students. The students received training from Sue Razavi. A concert of Spanish and Latin American music was given in the auditorium for 200 students, teachers and parents. The young artists and the pianist were paid. Free concert at the Nagle Avenue Y- a Senior center in Inwood, NYC.
Three singers sang accompanied by a pianist. The pianist was paid $300.
The singers were not paid, but donated their talent and time. The event
was professionally videotaped to help provide audition videos for the
artists, at a cost of $400. The audience numbered 75. Production of a zarzuela La tabernera del puerto at the Episcopal Church
of Christ and St. Stevens. The funding was received partly as a grant,
from the LMCC and partly as fees from three students who paid to workshop
their roles. The pianist,stage director consultant, diction consultant,
poetry consultant, were paid. The production turned into a staged, costumed
version, with eight singers accompanied by piano. The audience numbered
150. Tickets were $10. A master class of Spanish and Latin American music with Daniel Helfgot and Puli Toro was held at the Riverside Cathedral. Six singers participated. The suggested donation was $10 and 50 people attended. Mr. Helfgot, Ms. Toro and the pianists were paid. 1999 A concert of Latin American music with five singers, was held at the Broadway Presbyterian Church. LMCC gave a $500 grant which helped pay the pianist $400 and each of the singers received $50. Donations of $10 were requested and about 70 people attended. 2000 Free concert at the Isabella Center with six singers, donating one aria
each, and a singer donated a Schubert song cycle. The pianist was paid.
100 people attended. A free concert at the Ellington Room, (a community center in NYC) with
10 singers was given. The pianist was paid. The singers donated their
time and talent. Thirty people attended. A Benefit Concert at the Liederkranz Club in NYC for the Musicians Foundation emergency relief fund was given. $970 was raised. Twenty one singers donated their time and talent. Opera, Song and Spanish music was performed. The pianist was paid. A concert of Hispanic and Sephardic music was performed at LaBelle Epoque, a supper club in NYC. The singers and pianist were paid. Fifty attended 2001 A free concert titled Two Cultures One Language: MUSIC was given, with different repertoire. The five artists and recording engineer were paid. 200 people attended. A free community concert, Calaloo Con Salsa, of music from Africa, Cape Verde Islands, Latin America and Spain was given at St. Jude’s School gym. The four artists and recording engineer were paid. 100 people attended. 2002 Alta Classica presented a concert of traditional and classical Hispanic
music, Música Hispana, with an ensemble of six artists at the
Columbia Alumni Auditorium. Fifty people attended. Áll artists
were paid. Alta Classica presented Ibero-American music in collaboration with Artists Unite August 13th at Bennet Park in Washington Heights, NYC. The guitarist was Francisco Roldán, who accompanied three singers and performed music by Rafael Bullumba Landestoy. The singers were Anna Tonna, Mezzo-Soprano, Susan Razavi, Soprano, and Francisco Morales, Tenor. About 250 people of all ages attended. Alta Classica in collaboration with ALMA, a music ensemble founded by Anna Bartos presented MEMORIAL September 8th, 4PM at the Ellington Roon, 400 West 43rd. St., NYC. The free performance included Nigerian Bass Nori NkeAka who sang Brazilian music, Celeste Mann who sang Spirituals, Susan Razavi who performed Argentine songs all accompanied by Jerry Jean on Piano. 100 attended. Alta Classica held a free concert at the Donnell Library October 5th. The concert was titled "Across the Pyrenees" It featured the Ivory Consort, with Jay Elfenbein, Margo Grib, Todd Isler and Dennis Cinelli on period instruments from Medieval music of Arabic, African, Judeo/Spanish roots. Nori NkeAka and Sue Razavi also performed with the Ivory Consort. Nori arranged and performed five African songs from his culture. Ms. Razavi arranged and performed songs from Turkey, Spain and Andalucia. 100 attended. "Across the Pyrenees" was performed at the Hebrew Tabernacle on October 6th at 6PM. It was advertised in the flyer and pamphlet for the Medieval Festival. A grant application was made to the NEA to fund the concert and artists as part of the Medieval Festival next year. 50 attended. 2003 The Episcopal Church of St. Edward the Martyr and Alta Classica collaborated in presenting "Amor Latino" with Andrés Laprida, Sue Razavi and the Oscar Perez Trio. A wide selection of South American and Jazz music was very well received by the audience. About 60 attended. "Amor Latino" was presented at the Isabella Center with Willy Mosquera, Antonio Ordoñez (of "Native Sounds") Martha Ordoñez and Sue Razavi. South American, including Indigenous music was enthusiastically received, and danced to by over 100, including a large number of volunteers from Columbia University. March 23rd 2003, Alta Classica presented "Amor Latino" for St. Edward the Martyr Episcopal Church, 14 East 109th. St. at Fifth Avenue. The concert featured the Oscar Perez Trio which has roots from Colombia and Cuba, Sue Razavi, and Andrés Laprida, Guitarist originally from Argentina. Mr. Laprida played "Classical me?", "Bachianinha", "Guantanamera", "Adios Nonino", "Paco", "Cantos Nocturnos", "Berimbau", and "Aquarela do Brazil". Songs such as "Alfonsina y el mar", "El día que me quieras" and "Gracias a la vida" were presented. The audience was more than 50% Hispanic of all ages, with cultural, language and financial barriers, numbering 100-150. St. Edward's Church provided advertising. On April 5th 2003, at 3PM a free concert was held at the Isabella Geriatric Center, 515 Audubon Avenue, near 190th. St, Inwood, NYC. "Amor Latino" Featuring Willy Mosquera, Martha and Antonio Ordoñez, Guitar, Vocals and Percussion with Sue Razavi, Vocals. The repertoire included "Son de Carretero", "Zamba para olvidarte" , "Negro José", "Jesucristo", "Mediterraneo" and "Sombras". The audience, which numbered 100-150, experiences physical and financial barriers, and the majority are Hispanic. The concert was open to the general public. We perform annually in the community Geriatric centers. Alta Classica in association with the Medieval Festival presented and produced the second Annual Post Medieval Festival Concert on September 21st, 2003. Included were Sephardic pieces. This concert was supported by the musicians of the festival, Councilman Robert Jackson, Senator Eric Schneiderman, Chase Bank, Apple Bank, and local businesses. It was very well attended with 150 in the audience, representing the diversity of the "Heights" and was located at the Hebrew Tabernacle Congregation, 551 Fort Washington Avenue, NY. NY. November 17th, 2003 Alta Classica presented "Amor Latino" with "Salrumba" a six piece ensemble, led by Carlos Ponce from Argentina, performed a five hour series of traditional, folkloric and dance music for the Catholic Medical Mission Board's 75th Anniversary Gala, held at the Pierre Hotel. Over 500 people attended, including people from 18 countries. The response was overwhelmingly positive. Also featured was a dancer from the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. January 31st, 2004 as a Special Guest with Los Acustilocos Susan Razavi performed at Merkin Concert Hall, 168 West 67th. St. in Manhattan, under the auspices of Classical Productions, in association with Alta Classica in "Amor Latino". The audience was 50% Hispanic. On June 9th, 2004 from 6 to 7PM, Andres LaPrida and Susan Razavi presented "Amor Latino" for the kickoff of the Uptown Stroll at Kingsbridge Park Recreational Center. This was in collaboration with Community Board 12. The audience was from community. On June 12th, 2004 from 7 to 8PM Alta Classica presented "Amor Latino". Sue Razavi and Carlos Ponce, with his group "Salrumba" performed a concert of South American Jazz. The location was at Bennett Park, on Fort Washington Avenue between 183rd and 185th Streets. These two presentations were in collaboration with Artists Unite, www.artistsunite-ny.org, the NYC Parks Department, Community Board 12 and funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts. The audience was from the community, evenly divided among ages and ethnic groups. October 3rd, 2004 Alta Classica co-produced the third annual Post Medieval Festival Concert, in association with the Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation. This concert was in the "Two Cultures One Language:MUSIC" category. The concert was at P.S. 187; presented by Simone Song Properties, and suported by the Apple Bank, the Nagle Avenue YM/YWHA, Councilman Robert Jackson, NYSCA and the Puffin Foundation. It presented Gerard Edery and Christian Puig; the Salomone Trio and FlamencoMania. Also in October 2004, in association with the Nagle Avenue YM/YWHA, we planned a presentation of Fernando Orquera y su Propio Banda.
